Attendants

Bridesmaid dresses have come a long way – thankfully – since pouf sleeves and polka dots. The Gown Gallery constantly researches the latest style trends, so we can offer you gowns your bridesmaids will look forward to wearing again after the wedding.

Today’s bridesmaid trends include tea-length gowns, rich fabrics such as taffeta and silk, many vibrant color combinations. For embellishment, you’ll often see ribbons, brooches and sashes.

 If you’re a bridesmaid…

Congratulations! It’s an honor to be asked to stand up with the bride-to-be on the most exciting day of her life.

But you probably have a lot of questions, starting with, “What will I wear?” Questions you might want to ask include:

  • Will the dresses be long or short?
  • Will they be formal or informal?
  • Will they be exactly alike or different styles or colors?
After the bride selects her colors, that’s the time to start looking at dresses. Sometimes she makes the selections on her own and sometimes she leaves the choice to her bridesmaids.

Once your dress style is chosen, you’ll want to enter your measurements and other information on our Bridal Attendant Registration Form. It is important to include your normal dress size along with your measurements. This allows us to help you choose the right size gown to order.

Then, our seamstresses will fit you once your gown arrives. Alteration services are available at an additional charge.

What if you live out-of-town?

Not to worry. Here are the steps we will take to ensure your gown fits – and fits the color scheme:

  • We will work closely with you to get your measurements and determine what size is best.
  • When the gowns come in, we will ship your gown directly to you so it can be altered in time for the wedding.
  • We recommend that your gown and those of the other attendants are all ordered from our salon to ensure they will be cut from the same dye-lot of fabric and to ensure the same expected ship date.

If you’re the bride…

You will want all of your bridesmaids to look and feel great as they stand by your side. We can help! Our consultants will guide you in choosing the perfect style that will be flattering to all of your attendants. And we are always available to answer any questions you may have.

You can be creative by fitting your bridesmaids in the same color but different styles – or vice versa. Brides often choose a different style or color for the maid or matron of honor.

Following are some more ideas.

7 Style Tips for Bridesmaids’ Dresses

  1. Wrap waists flatter all body types.
  2. A-line gowns de-emphasize hips.
  3. V-neck gowns with straps flatter busty women.
  4. Tie together different gown styles with matching accessories.
  5. Use ribbons or sashes at the waist to tie in accent colors.
  6. Chocolate is the “new” black.
  7. Chiffon and organza are good fabrics for spring.

The bride may decide to finish the look with shoes in a basic color or dyed to match.

Timeline

6-9 months before

  • Choose bridesmaids’ dresses.

4-6 months before

  • Choose attendants’ jewelry.

Bridesmaid gowns usually take 10 to 12 weeks for delivery – though, for an additional charge, we often work with our designers on rush orders. We recommend ordering bridesmaids’ gowns six to nine months before the wedding to allow plenty of time for alterations or shipping gowns to out-of-town bridesmaids.

No time to wait?

For last-minute selections, The Gown Gallery also offers a wide selection of gowns in stock. Even one or two weeks before the wedding, you can find a beautiful dress that will complement the bride’s colors.
